Profile - Mike Jones
Forward |
One of the purest shooters ever to grace the NBL, Jones’ numbers only tell half the story. The 195cm forward helped put basketball and the Hawks on the map in Wollongong. With a smile stretching to his early 80s sideburns, a deadly fade-away jumper and thunderous dunks, Alabama-born Jones was hugely popular with fans. Voted the league MVP in 1981, Jones averaged 29.4 points on 51 per cent shooting in three years - his best output was a 32.7 clip in ‘83 - tops in the league. Jones was in his prime when he left the Hawks to head home and play semi-pro ball and, but he left an indelible impression on those who saw him play. |
