Hays endeared himself to Illawarra fans with his professional approach and consistently classy performances. A versatile guard who came to the Hawks from Adelaide, Hays averaged 18 points, 5.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. He often sacrificed his own scoring output for the good of the team.
