2000/01 - Wollongong Hawks : NBL Champions

Joyce changes almost half his roster, adding Charles Thomas, Damon Lowery, Grant Kruger, Matt Shanahan and Axel Dench.
After finishing fourth with a club-best 21 wins from 28 games, Wollongong upset Perth in the first round of the post-season before conquering Adelaide when Lowery sinks three free throws with no time on the clock in game three of the semi-final series.
The Hawks then go on to beat Townsville 2-1 to capture the club’s only title.

Wollongong become the first team from NSW and the first Regional team to be crowned NBL Champions with a 2-1 series win over the Townsville Crocodiles.

To reach the Grand Final, Wollongong overcame long time hoodoo venues, scoring a tough Quarter Final win in Perth,
Quarter Finals: Hawks 2 - Perth Wildcats 1
A couple of nights later Hawks accounted for the 36ers in Adelaide in Game 1 of the Semi Finals.
Adelaide had a comfortable win in Game 2 back in Wollongong.
Hawks then advanced to the Grand Final on the back of one of the most replayed moments in NBL History, simply known as "Damon's Free Throws"
